Bali
Home to a massive variety of reputed international and authentic local restaurants, Bali is the better of the two island destinations for experiencing a massive variety of cuisines from around the world.
Some of the island’s top restaurants include Mozaic, which features French cooking with influences of the Balinese culinary traditions, and Restaurant Locavore, which serves a variety of Asian cuisine using only locally grown ingredients.
And while Bali offers a massive selection of cuisines for all tastes, the local foods are among some of the island’s best offerings, with must-try dishes being the bebek betutu and babi guling.
Phuket
Regarding authentic local cuisine, Phuket restaurants are hard to beat. Thai food is among some of the world’s most popular cuisines, and it is even more delicious when prepared in its home country.

While both destinations are extremely safe for tourists, Bali can be considered the slightly safer of the two options. Phuket
Phuket is also a safe place to visit, although tourists should practice a little more caution when visiting this Thai island. As a more popular nightlife hotspot, Phuket attracts visitors of all sorts, some less reputable than others.

Bali
With affordable transportation options and a relatively small landmass, Bali is both cheap and easy to traverse, taking only about three hours to cross from one side of the island to the other.
While an efficient bus network connects all of the popular tourist regions and attractions, affordable private transportation means that taxis are the most popular method to get around Bali.
Many visitors also opt to rent a scooter to get around the island. However, if you haven’t ridden a scooter before, I recommend avoiding this method, as Bali’s busy streets are not the safest place to learn to ride.
Alternative transportation options include popular rideshare apps, such as Grab and Gojek. However, these aren’t always available in certain areas.
Phuket
At about a tenth of the size of Bali, Phuket is extremely easy to get around, with many of the island’s popular attractions being within a short hike from many of the tourist areas.
Those not looking to traverse the island on foot still have several convenient options for getting to their destination, with the most accessible and popular being the tuk-tuks that are constantly weaving their way through the island roads.
Like Bali, Phuket is a popular destination for renting scooters and motorbikes and provides a slightly safer setting for riders with its sleepy island roads and less overwhelming traffic.

1. When is Your Southeast Asia Trip?
Located on either side of the equator, Bali and Phuket experience their wet and dry seasons at opposing times of the year. For this reason, the easiest way to determine where to spend your Southeast Asian vacation is by going to the destination that is experiencing optimal weather conditions at the time of your holiday.
For instance, if you are traveling during the Northern Hemisphere’s summer vacation between June and October, Bali would be the best destination to visit, as it experiences warm sunny weather while Phuket is in the height of its Wet Season.
