Jason Gass
Last Updated: July 25th, 2023

Denver, Colorado is quickly becoming one of the most popular travel destinations in the US. With close proximity to the mountains, a thriving arts and entertainment scene, and tons of great restaurants, breweries, and bars, it’s easy to see why people love to travel to Denver.

With Denver growing as a tourist destination, there has recently been a number of great new hotels built in Denver. Even if you are a local like me, these hotels are worth a look, even if you just need a weekend staycation.

In this article, I’ll share with you ten of the best, new hotels in Denver. I’ll also answer some frequently asked questions about hotels in Denver.

The 10 Best New Hotels in Denver

Denver has grown a lot in the last few years, and with so many people traveling here for work and leisure, there was a need for some great new hotels. Some of the hotels I offer on this list are boutique hotels, others are large chain hotels that have stepped up their offerings.

So, whether you are looking for something quiet, or just need an affordable room, there is a great option for you on my list.

1. The Slate Denver

The Slate opened just a bit over a year ago, but it is becoming a favorite spot for Denver visitors. This hotel, part of the Hilton Tapestry Collection, is the newest hotel on my list. The Slate is located just across the street from the Denver Convention Center, in a building that formerly housed the Emily Griffith Opportunity School.

Because the building is a former school, you will find many “school” themed features in the hotel. My favorite is the hotel restaurant, aptly named the Teachers’ Lounge.

The Slate is not over the top when it comes to decor or amenities. It’s comfortable and features a relaxing color palette of gray and cream. You’ll find a variety of room options, but each has a mini-bar with a coffee maker and refrigerator, LCD televisions, and a comfortable desk with a device charging station.

2. The Rally Hotel at McGregor Square

If you are coming to Denver to experience one of the coolest sports towns in the US, the Rally Hotels at McGregor Square is the ideal hotel. This newer hotel offers visitors a subtle baseball theme in a quiet, and relaxing atmosphere. The baseball decor is subtle, with hints of white leather, red stitching, and the occasional display of baseball memorabilia.

Each room at The Rally is elegantly appointed and both functional and classy. The Rally has a range of room options whether you are in town for a romantic getaway or need enough space for you and your kids.

What makes this hotel great for sports fans is its location in downtown Denver, just across the street from Coors Field. If you aren’t up for a game in this beautiful stadium, grab a table at one of the great restaurants or bars that are located in McGregor Square. The square is made for watching sports with an outdoor seating area and a giant outdoor television screen.

When they aren’t showing baseball or one of the other sports played in Denver, McGregor Square hosts outdoor movies, which are great for family fun.

3. Catbird Hotel

The RiNo (River North) neighborhood has experienced a resurgence of popularity in the past 10 years. Once an industrial area, RiNo is now the center of Denver’s pop-art culture. Walking through this neighborhood you’ll spy plenty of street art, and there is no shortage of great bars, restaurants, and breweries.

The Catbird is one of the most unique hotels in Denver. This boutique hotel fits perfectly in the RiNo neighborhood, and it offers some of the coolest features that I’ve ever seen in a hotel. The rooms here are well-appointed but small. Each room has a loft bed that has closet storage underneath.

The rooms have a small mini-bar, and some even offer a small kitchen space. The lobby of the Catbird is well-appointed with books, and a “Playroom” where visitors can check-out games, bicycles, record players, and even Vespa scooters.

4. The Crawford Hotel

The Crawford Hotel is one of my favorite new hotels in Denver. It is located in the recently renovated Union Station, Denver’s central train station. This bustling location is a central hub for travel and commuting in Denver. The Crawford occupies the upper floors of the train station, with the hallways looking down over the center waiting area that has a bar, a variety of restaurants, and a bookstore.

Rooms at The Crawford complement the architecture of the historic train station. No two rooms are alike, each with its own theme or style. For a really unique experience that you won’t find in any other hotel in Denver, reserve a Pullman room. These rooms are decorated to look like an old train car, complete with retro travel advertisement posters.

5. Hyatt Centric Downtown Denver

The Hyatt Centric Downtown is a chain hotel that doesn’t feel like a chain brand. This hotel is centrally located Downtown and gives you easy access to the performing arts center, convention center, Ball Arena, and numerous other Denver hotspots. Walking into this hotel you are welcomed by local art and carefully curated local music. The rooms of the Hyatt feature the Hyatt Grand Beds, luxury bath amenities, and cozy bathrobes.

The Hyatt Centric’s Apple Blossom restaurant is a great spot to eat, but it really gets accolades for its breakfast offerings. For happy hour or after-dinner drinks, head to the rooftop bar. Here you’ll enjoy a great cocktail, a local craft beer, or a glass of wine, while you admire one of the best views in all of downtown Denver.

6. Thompson Denver

The Thompson Denver is a boutique hotel from Hyatt. This hotel opened in 2022 and has quickly made a name as one of the most luxurious hotels in Downtown Denver. You’ll find this hotel conveniently located in the LoDo district near all of the best spots in Denver. The rooms are exceptionally luxurious featuring hardwood floors, leather headboards, and high-quality linens and towels.

For locals, the hotel is not the real draw to Thompson Denver – it’s the restaurant. Chez Maggy is hard to get into but offers foodies a French-inspired menu from Ludo Lefebvre This Michelin-decorated chef has brought his unique style from Los Angeles to Denver, and Denverites are loving it!

For a great cocktail, check out the Reynard Social on the sixth floor of Thompson Denver. It has two distinctly different rooms and some of the best cocktails in Denver.

7. Clayton Hotel & Members Club

Art is a big thing in Denver right now, and if you want to have a fine art experience in your hotel in Denver, the Clayton Hotel and Members Club is a great spot. With a perfectly curated art collection, the Clayton is a perfect fit in the high-end Cherry Creek North neighborhood.

You cannot get more boutique than the Clayton. This beautiful hotel has only 63, impeccably decorated rooms. Each room is exceptionally comfortable and has upscale amenities like Dyson hair dryers, super soft linens, and even terry bathrobes for visitors.

The Clayton has one of Denver’s newest, and most popular restaurants. Kini’s is a Greek-inspired restaurant that serves small, shareable plates with a Mediterranean flair.

8. The Oxford Hotel

Ok, full disclosure here – The Oxford Hotel is actually the oldest hotel in Denver. However, it recently underwent a massive renovation, making this beautiful staple in the Denver hotel scene, a brand new experience. Rooms in the newly renovated Oxford have hints of the old, but also feature contemporary and ArtDeco styles. You’ll no longer find deep greens, dark reds, and sapphire blues, instead, the hotel has a new, lighter feel.

Besides the amazing accommodations, the Oxford offers a beautiful spa, a delicious restaurant, and one of the coolest bars in all of Denver. The Cruise Room is a local favorite. This small bar opened in 1933 after the repeal of Prohibition. The Art Deco style and some of the best mixologists in town make the Cruise Room a must if you are staying at The Oxford.

9. The Maven Hotel at Dairy Block

As the name suggests, the Dairy Block once housed the Windsor Dairy. Today, it is one of the most recently updated parts of Downtown Denver. Tucked away in the LoDo neighborhood, The Maven Hotel at the Dairy Block is one of the most beautiful hotels in Denver. With 172 rooms all featuring floor-to-ceiling windows, soft beds, and beautiful wood accents, you will easily feel at home in The Maven.

The Maven has a beautiful lobby bar, but if you want to venture out, the Dairy Block area has 19 restaurants and 7 bars. You are also within walking distance of many of the other dining options in the LoDo neighborhood, as well as some unique shopping options.

10. Vib by Best Western Hotel & Resorts

I head back to the RiNo district for my last hotel recommendation. Vib by Best Western Hotel and Resorts is not your typical Best Western. While this chain has a reputation for affordable, if not simple, accommodations, Vib is not simple. This is a beautiful hotel that is a perfect spot for business travelers.

Vib has 140 guest rooms with bright and contemporary furnishings. It has comfortable beds, hardwood floors, and functional workspaces. The hotel has two bars. The rooftop bar is quite popular with visitors and locals alike. It has great views of the mountains and downtown.

The Brown Palace was built for Molly Brown, the wife of silver tycoon James Joseph Brown. Molly holds her place in history as “The Unsinkable Molly Brown”, the most famous passenger to survive the sinking of the Titanic.
